Two kinds of codes

  • An invite code (starts with BOOP) brings a brand-new person onto boopr. You spend one of a limited supply.
  • A friend code (starts with FRND) connects two people who are already on boopr.

One friend-code exchange connects both of you at once. There's no adding back: one of you makes a code, the other enters it, and the maker approves.

How friend codes really work

There's no permanent code with your name on it. You generate a fresh code each time you want to connect: it works exactly once, expires after 24 hours, and you can hold at most 5 unused codes at a time. That's a feature: a code that leaks or gets passed around is worthless within a day, and it can never connect more than one person.

You'll find it all in the Friends tab under "Add friend": "My Code" generates and shows your active codes (swipe left to revoke one), "Enter Code" is where you type or scan a friend's.

Connecting, step by step

  1. One of you generates a code

Friends tab, "Add friend", then "Generate Friend Code". Read it out, share it, or show the QR code.

  2. The other enters it

Type it (capitals don't matter) or tap "Scan QR Code", then "Connect". They'll see "Request Sent" and wait.

  3. The code's maker approves

A badge appears on their Friends tab with a "Pending Request" banner: tap to review, then "Accept" or "Decline".

  4. "You're friends!"

Both sides connect at the same moment. Profiles unlock, and past posts are shared according to each person's history setting.

Redeeming a code grants nothing by itself. Until the code's maker approves, the person who entered it sees no profile, no posts, nothing. Approval is the moment the connection exists, and only the code's maker has that button.

While a request is pending

  • A pending request is never a row in your friends list. Look for the badge on the Friends tab and the "Pending Request" banner.
  • Pending requests don't expire. They wait until accepted, declined, or canceled.
  • The person who redeemed can withdraw the request any time from the friend requests screen ("Sent" tab). The other side isn't notified.

Declining and canceling

Declining is quiet by design. The other person gets no notification; the request just disappears from their side. They can't tell a decline from a canceled request, which keeps saying no free of drama.

Both sides have a limit of 1,000 friends. If a code can't be redeemed because either of you is at the cap, the app deliberately doesn't say which: "One of you has reached the friend limit."

Invites: bringing someone new

Invites live in the side menu under "Invites". Tap "Create Invite" and share the code; the person uses it to sign up.

  • You get 25 invites for life, or 100 with boopr+ (permanently, even if the subscription ends).
  • An invite code is shown exactly once, at creation. Copy or share it right then; boopr doesn't keep a readable copy.
  • Unused invites expire after 7 days, and the invite comes back to your count. Revoking an unused invite returns it too.
  • When someone joins with your invite, your list shows "Used by" their name. Nothing in the app shows them who invited them, though of course they'll remember who handed them the code.

Invites and accountability

Inviting someone means vouching for them, and boopr takes that literally. Every account is linked to its inviter. If someone you invited breaks the rules early on, the action counts toward you too:

  • During their first month, any moderation action against them (warning, restriction, or ban) counts toward your standing.
  • From one month to six months, only a ban counts.
  • After six months, they're on their own record entirely.

If three moderation actions accumulate from people you invited, your account is flagged for review and your remaining invites are cut to 10. None of this is public: no trees, no scores, no invite counts on profiles. Vouching is a responsibility, not a scoreboard.

Limits and quirks

  • Codes never contain 0, 1, I, or O, so nothing can be misread. Lowercase works fine.
  • You can hold at most 5 active friend codes, with a short pause between generating them.
  • If you decline a request, the friend code that was used becomes usable again until it expires.
  • Invite errors are deliberately vague ("That code didn't work") so codes can't be fished for. If an invite won't go through, just ask for a fresh one.
  • There's no search by name, phone, or email, no contact upload, and no "people you may know". Ever. Codes are the only way in, on purpose.
