Your friend gets pinged
If you screenshot a friend's boop, post, profile, or comments, their phone gets a heads-up, usually within seconds. If the phone that took the screenshot is offline, the alert goes out when it reconnects. Screenshotting isn't invisible here. It's social. Whoever shared something knows it was captured.
Detection, not prevention
Screenshots of social content (the feed, posts, profiles, comments, boops) are not blocked or blanked. The screenshot succeeds, and the person whose content was captured finds out. We chose detection over blanking deliberately: blocking the capture outright is unreliable across devices, and on some phones it would silently break the notification that makes the feature work. On Android, a few of your own sensitive screens, like your recovery phrase, are additionally blanked in captures. iPhones don't allow any app to block screenshots, so on iOS those screens warn you instead, and boopr hides sensitive content in the app switcher.
It runs without reading your messages
Plenty of apps do screenshot alerts. The difference on boopr is that we don't have to read your content to do it. Detection happens on the device, on top of the same encryption that keeps us from seeing your stuff in the first place.
What's protected
Screenshotting a boop alerts its sender. Screenshotting a post, its comments, or a profile alerts the person it belongs to. Screen recording on recent phones is detected too, with the same alert.
It's a deterrent, not a force field. Screenshots aren't blocked, and someone can always point a second phone at their screen, which no app on earth can stop. What boopr does is make screenshotting visible: the person who shared the content gets pinged. Share accordingly.
